You picked George C. Marshall. The answer is Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Which president had been Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during World War II?
Why the answer is Dwight D. Eisenhower
General Dwight D. Eisenhower commanded the Allied invasion of North Africa and then the D-Day landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944, the largest seaborne invasion in history. Before the landings, he wrote a note taking full blame in case they failed.
Elected president in 1952 with the slogan “I Like Ike,” he ended the fighting in Korea and served two terms. He signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956, creating the Interstate Highway System, partly inspired by seeing Germany’s autobahns during the war.
The presidential retreat in Maryland, Shangri-La under FDR, was renamed Camp David in honor of Eisenhower’s grandson David.
