You picked Bunker Hill. The answer is Yorktown.
Which 1781 battle ended the last major fighting of the Revolutionary War?
Why the answer is Yorktown
In 1781, British General Charles Cornwallis fortified Yorktown, Virginia, expecting the Royal Navy to supply or evacuate him. Instead, a French fleet under Admiral de Grasse blocked the Chesapeake Bay, while American and French armies under Washington and Rochambeau surrounded the town.
After weeks of siege and bombardment, Cornwallis surrendered on October 19, 1781, giving up about 8,000 soldiers and sailors. Cornwallis claimed illness and sent his second-in-command to surrender.
Fighting continued in places, but Britain’s government soon sought peace. The Treaty of Paris, signed in 1783, formally recognized American independence.
