What food did God send from heaven to feed the Israelites in the wilderness?
Why the answer is Manna
Exodus 16 describes how, after the Israelites complained of hunger, God sent bread from heaven each morning. When the people first saw it, they asked one another “What is it?”, which is the meaning usually given for the Hebrew word manna.
Each family gathered just enough for the day; leftovers spoiled by morning. On the sixth day they gathered a double portion, and none fell on the Sabbath. Scripture says it was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey.
God provided manna for the entire forty years in the wilderness, stopping only when the Israelites ate the produce of Canaan (Joshua 5:12). A jar of it was kept as a reminder, and Hebrews 9:4 lists it among the contents of the Ark of the Covenant.
