What do the four H’s in 4-H stand for?
Why the answer is Head, Heart, Hands, Health
The 4-H pledge commits members to “my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living.”
The movement began around 1902, when Ohio school superintendent A. B. Graham started a club in Clark County for farm children to learn practical skills like growing corn and canning. Similar clubs sprang up across the country and became part of the cooperative extension system.
The 4-H emblem is a green four-leaf clover with a white H on each leaf. Its motto is “To make the best better,” and millions of young people take part today.
