The answer is Lawrence Welk.

Lawrence Welk grew up in a German-speaking farm community in North Dakota and left home at twenty-one with his accordion. His band’s light, bubbly sound earned the name “champagne music,” and a bubble machine became his trademark.

The Lawrence Welk Show ran on ABC from 1955 to 1971 and then in syndication until 1982. Viewers loved the polkas, waltzes and wholesome performers, especially the Lennon Sisters.

Welk’s count-off, “a-one an’ a-two,” became famous. Public television stations have aired reruns since 1987, and they still draw loyal audiences.
